MLB Baseball Betting: Atlanta Braves at Arizona Diamondbacks

Now this is a strange game. The worst team in baseball against the worst home team in baseball. Well, if you want to get technical about it the Atlanta Braves are also the worst home team in baseball (though nowhere near the worst road team in baseball). Arizona isn’t far behind at 21-40 -25.4 units on their home field. The Braves have actually made money on the road this year going 26-36 +10 units. At one point, the Braves looked to have a shot at catching Philadelphia for fourth place in the NL East but the Phillies have been playing fairly well of late and are now 12.5 games ahead of Atlanta who has lost 8 of their last 10 games. The Diamondbacks are just two games back of fourth place San Diego but have lsot 7 of 10.

Arizona will start Zack Godley who is expected to be a solid MLB starter but hasn’t shown much as of yet. He’s got a 5.05 ERA overall with a 1.439 WHIP, a 4.60 home ERA with a 1.398 WHIP and a 4.19 L3 ERA with a 1.138 WHIP. The Diamondbacks have gone 4-3 in his 7 starts including 3-2 at home with a 1-2 record in his last 3. Godley is coming off his best start of the year going 7 1/3 innings against the NY Mets allowing 5 hits and 2 earned runs. This would be more impressive were it not against the weak hitting Mets. Relatively speaking, the Braves aren’t bad against right handers with a loss of -3.1 units.

Atlanta will start Mike Foltynewicz who hasn’t looked too bad in his most recent assignments. Overall he’s got a 4.35 ERA with a 1.314 WHIP, a 4.86 ERA with a 1.480 WHIP on the road and a 3.78 ERA with a 1.380 WHIP in his last three starts. Atlanta is 7-9 in his starts overall this season, 5-4 on the road and 2-1 in his last three. Combined with the huge prices Atlanta typically commands against them this capable showing has made Foltynewicz a profitable pitcher including +4.8 units on the road.

Can’t play on Arizona at home and particularly against right handed pitching. Diamondbacks are 34-57 -21 units against right handers this year and the Braves have bade a decent profit on the road this year.
