MLB Baseball Betting: Atlanta Braves at Miami Marlins

Wednesday baseball betting features the completely inexplicable Atlanta Braves. The Braves beat the Marlins on Tuesday for their sixth straight victory. More impressive than the win was the manner in which they won. It was a game that the Braves wouldn’t have even been competitive in a month ago. The Marlins opened a 2-0 lead behind their ace, Jose Fernandez who was in lethal form. Fernandez threw 7 inning of one hit baseball striking out seven and it looked like the Braves’ five game winning streak was kaput. But the Braves scrapped out two runs in the top of the 8th to tie the game and then added another one in the tenth for the win.

Don’t look now but the Braves are finally pulling within range of their successor for the ‘worst team in baseball’ award, the Philadelphia Phillies. Atlanta is only 5 games back of the Phillies and just several weeks ago it looked as if they had no chance whatsoever of pulling themselves out of last place. Now with Atlanta heading in the right direction and Philadelphia heading in the wrong direction it could very well happen. Not convinced that the Braves have completely turned things around but sure don’t see Philadelphia going anywhere but deeper into the toilet.

Atlanta has completely had the Marlins’ number this year which makes them the only team in the majors that this statement can be made about. Before sweeping the New York Mets over the weekend the only series sweep the Braves had all year was early in the season against the Marlins. Atlanta is 4-0 against Miami in Florida this year and 6-1 against the Marlins overall. That means that 25% of the Braves total victory count has come against Miami.

So why not go to the well with Atlanta once again? They haven’t hit lefthanders well this season but then again they haven’t done anything else well either. Adam Conley isn’t exactly Sandy Koufax–the Marlins have split his 14 starts overall and his six starts at home where he’s got a 4.09 ERA. The way the Braves are playing at the moment they’re tough to pass up simply because you know they’ll give a good effort and at this price that’s all we want.
