MLB Baseball Betting: Baltimore Orioles at Oakland A’s

The Baltimore Orioles and Oakland A’s are in a tight battle for first place in the American League East along with the Boston Red Sox who are currently in third place. As of mid evening on Wednesday, all three teams are in action but here’s the standings entering Wednesday night play: The Orioles and Toronto are tied for first place. Actually, Baltimore is fractionally ahead of Toronto–the O’s have a .563 winning percentage while the Jays have a .561 winning percentage but for all intents and purposes they’re tied. The Boston Red Sox are 1.5 games back and the New York Yankees aren’t completely out of the mix–they’re 7 games out. Making this race all the more intriguing is the fact that none of the teams in the division are in particularly good form. Every team is 5-5 in their last 10 games with the exception of the New York Yankees who are 4-6.

Oakland has been an awful team this season but might be able to stay out of last place in the AL West simply because the team below them–the LA Angels–are in horrible form (losing 5 straight, 3-7 L10). Oakland is also 3-7 in their last 10 but they’ve won two straight and for now are 1/2 game up on the last place Halos. That’s not much to cheer about for a season–they’re 16.5 games back of the first place Texas Rangers.

Baltimore will start their most dependable pitcher–right hander Chris Tillman. The O’s have won 19 of Tillman’s 24 start this season including 7 of 11 on the road. They’ve lost 2 of his last 3. For the season Tilman has a 3.50 ERA and a 1.236 WHIP overall and a 3.24 ERA and 1.154 WHIP on the road. His last 3 ERA isn’t impressive (5.94) but that bloated number is due to one horrible start at Colorado (5 innings, 6 ER). In his last two games he’s allowed 5 ER in 11 2/3 innings pitched.

Oakland will counter with right hander Andrew Triggs. Triggs is a converted reliever who was acquired from Seattle. He’s split the season between the Mariners and Triple A Tacoma. He’s started only one game this year–June 18, 2016 when he went 3 innings allowing 3 hits and 1 earned run. Oakland has won 5 of the last 8 head to head in their home park including both games this year. Baltimore is just 24-32 -6.1 units on the road.
