MLB Baseball Betting: Colorado Rockies at Los Angeles Dodgers

National League West action at Chavez Ravine tonight as the Los Angeles Dodgers host the slumping Colorado Rockies. These teams are only separated in the standings by four games but at the moment they’re heading in opposite directions. Los Angeles is starting to find some consistent form and has won six of their last ten games. They did lose yesterday’s series opener to the Rockies. Despite that victory, Colorado has lost seven of their last ten games and now has to concern themselves with the fourth place Arizona Diamondbacks just two games behind.

The pitching matchup is definitely intriguing if not impressive. The Dodgers will start one of the more interesting storylines in baseball this season, Julio Urias. Urias has started two games for Los Angeles–both on the road–losing both and posting a 9.39 ERA in the process. So why is this interesting? Because Urias is just 19 years old and tabbed as a future superstar. Consider these words from Dodgers’ manager Dave Roberts: “It’s more of the way he was throwing the ball. He didn’t get the results he would have liked his first two starts, but the way the ball comes out, the way he competes and handled himself in New York and Chicago, we want to see him again. We want to get another look at him and give him another opportunity.”

It’s not easy handling young pitching talent. On balance, at some point they need to be facing big league hitters but there’s a fine line between having them get knocked around for the sake of ‘experience’ and not giving them the experience they need. On the other hand, there’s been plenty of examples of pitching prospects struggling in their first few games and then ‘getting it’ and dominating. Urias has the potential to do this. Plus he’s a lefthander and they’re always at a premium for Major League Baseball teams.

Colorado will start Eddie Butler and they’ve lost his last three starts as he’s put up unimpressive numbers. The Dodgers have won 14 of 20 against the Rockies at home but this price just looks too high with a ‘prospect’ on the mound for the home team.
