MLB Baseball Betting: Philadelphia Phillies at Atlanta Braves

The two worst teams in the National League East continue a four game series at Turner Field on Saturday as the Atlanta Braves host the Philadelphia Phillies. The Phillies have an eleven game lead over the hapless Braves thanks to a nice run right around the All Star Break but they’re not in much better form of late. The Phillies have lost six of their last ten and are 7.5 games back of the third place New York Mets. The Braves are a downright pitiful team. This is their last year at Turner Field before moving to a swanky new ballpark out in the suburbs but they haven’t exactly made a compelling case for fans to fill the new venue. Atlanta not only has the worst record in baseball they’re on the verge of ‘catching’ the Cincinnati Reds for the worst run differential in baseball. Atlanta is 25 games out of first place, have lost 7 of 10 and have a record of 8-15 in the month of July (all records pending Friday results). But it’s not like anyone has any expectations for them–that’s how you can be 8-15 for the month and only lose 0.6 units in the process.

The Braves will start right hander Julio Teheran who is one of the few players on the team that looks like he belongs in the Major Leagues this season. Teheran has a 2.71 ERA and a 0.956 WHIP overall, a 2.90 ERA and 1.098 WHIP at home and a 2.65 ERA and 1.118 WHIP in his last three games. He’s received zero help from his team this year to the point that no one would blame him if he stopped showing up at the ballpark. Atlanta is 5-15 in Teheran’s starts overall and a downright embarrassing 1-10 -10.2 units at home. Atlanta has been horrible at Turner Field this year with a 14-36 -18.8 unit performance.

Philadelphia will go with Jeremy Hellickson who may very well be making his final start for Philadelphia as he’s expected to be moved at the trade deadline. Hellickson’s YTD numbers are mediocre but he’s made a compelling case for a contender to take him on with a 2.25 ERA and 7.00 WHIP in his last three games. No interest in betting the Braves at home.
