MLB Baseball Betting: San Francisco Giants at Pittsburgh Pirates

The San Francisco Giants will play the second of a four game series against the Pittsburgh Pirates and it will give the hottest team in baseball the chance to add a few more ‘W’s’ to their streak. Pending the outcome of Monday’s action the Giants are 9-1 in their last ten games and have won eight straight games. For the month of June they are 11-5 and have opened up a six and a half game lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers (who are also playing well at the moment). The Pirates are oat the other extreme. They’ve lost five straight, 9 of 10 and are 4-14 in the month of June. For now, they’re managing to hold on to the third spot in the NL Central but if they keep up their current miserable pace it’ll only be a matter of time before they sink in the standings. The Milwaukee Brewers are just 2.5 games back and the last place Cincinnati Reds are just 6.5 games behind.
The Pirates faced Madison Bumgarner on Monday night and things don’t get much easier for them here. Former Cincinnati Red Johnny Cueto has been very impressive this season and the Giants have won 12 of his 14 starts overall including a perfect 7-0 on the road. He’s got a 2.10 overall ERA, a 2.28 road ERA and has been even better in his most recent assignments with a 1.29 ERA. Pittsburgh will counter with a recent minor league callup, Wilfredo Boscan. Boscan has not pitched at the Major League Level this season but he’s done solid work with the Triple A Indianapolis Indians.
Form plays such a large part in baseball betting and that makes this handicap something of a ‘no brainer’. You clearly don’t want anything to do with this Pittsburgh Pirates team in their current form. The fact that they are starting a pitcher who hasn’t worked in the Majors this season makes them especially problematic. The Giants are a monster right now and it’s hard to jump in front of a team in that kind of form. The outcome of Monday’s game doesn’t really matter in terms of these team’s overall form.
