Monday Basketball Betting Preview

Monday Basketball Betting Preview

Not a very big card of basketball betting options for Monday but there are a fair amount of attractive games on the board both in college and the NBA. In college there are only three ‘main board’ games on the schedule but all three have a good wagering angle. Five games are on the NBA schedule with a couple that look promising for the basketball bettor. The daily sports betting board will get much more crowded later this week as NHL hockey resumes after their Olympic break.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL:

SYRACUSE AT MARYLAND:

Syracuse has lost two straight games and have been a solid investment on the road this season. That being said, this is a dangerous spot for the Orange. They’re coming off a loss in the big game against Duke which is what has been their central focus for the past week or so. Now without any ‘A list’ opponents on the docket until ACC tournament play starts they have to take a dangerous trip to College Park, Maryland to face a Terps team that has been tough at home this season and has covered every game they’ve played against a ranked opponent this season. Look for the Syracuse ‘slump’ to continue.

BET MARYLAND +3′ OVER SYRACUSE

OKLAHOMA STATE AT TCU:

Neither team is in good form at the moment but there’s one big difference–Oklahoma State has the talent to reverse their substandard form including future top NBA draft pick Keith Smart. OSU should close the season with swagger now that Smart has returned from suspension and they’ve got a perfect patsy here. TCU has lost 14 straight games and although they’re 6-8 ATS in that run they’re catching Oklahoma State at a bad time. They destroyed Texas Tech at home in Keith Smart’s first game back in the lineup and now they face an even weaker opponent. Making matters worse for TCU–they will likely be without their leading scorer Amric Fields and his 16.2 PPG. They’ve gone 0-12 in conference with him and hard to see things going any better without him. Cowboys have won the last three meetings by 32, 17 and 18 and they should win this glorified scrimmage by 20 or more.

OKLAHOMA AT KANSAS

With the caveat that Oklahoma is a decent investment as an underdog going 9-3 against the spread in that role Kansas looks like the right side here. Jayhawks won by 7 as -6 point favorites at Oklahoma earlier this year despite a substandard effort from superstar Andrew Wiggins. It’s unlikely he’ll be held in check again and the Jayhawks should win by a more comfortable margin this time around.

NBA:

DALLAS MAVERICKS AT NEW YORK KNICKS:

It’s always tough to lay points on the road in the NBA but the Knicks are flatlining while the Mavericks are playing well. Dallas has won 9 of their last 12 games (7-5 ATS) and has been solid on the road all season long with a 20-10 ATS mark. The Knicks are heading in the other direction having lost 8 of 10 going 3-7 against the pointspread. New York has been horrible at home thi syear (10-20 ATS) and as an underdog (9-20 ATS). New York did win by 12 at Dallas earlier this year but that just heightens the chance that the Mavs will get their revenge.

BOSTON CELTICS AT UTAH JAZZ:

No respect for the hard trying Jazz from the linemaker but that just gives us a great opportunity to back them at a very reasonable home price. Never easy to play at the high altitude of Salt Lake City which is why the Energy Solutions Arena is one of the toughest home venues in the NBA year after year. Utah has won 9 of 15 SU at the Energy Solutions Arena and catch a road weary Boston team playing their fourth road game since the All Star Break. Celtics didn’t have much depth to begin with and have even less now that injuries have started to pile up. Jared Sullinger will miss this game and Gerald Wallace is listed as ‘questionable’. Jazz will be without big man Derrick Favors but that won’t be as much of a liability against an undersized Celtics team. Boston 0-3 SU/1-2 ATS on their current West Coast road trip with the lone cover coming by a single point at Sacramento on Saturday night where they lost by 7 as +8 underdogs.
