NBA Betting: Cleveland Cavaliers at Indiana Pacers

After a one day hiatus due to the NCAA basketball final NBA action will resume on Tuesday night and we’ll focus on a Central Division matchup between the Indiana Pacers and Cleveland Cavaliers. The Pacers have lost two straight but backed in to the divisional title thanks to a Chicago Bulls loss. There’s still some ‘unfinished business’ as they’ll try to run down the red hot New York Knicks for second place in the Eastern Conference. The Cleveland Cavaliers are just playing out the string having been eliminated from playoff contention long ago.

The Cavaliers have been an awful road team this year going 10-28 SU but have been a very competitive pointspread investment playing away from home. Cleveland is 22-15 ATS on the road which suggests a decent effort on most nights even if they haven’t been able to convert that effort into outright wins. The Cavs have won two straight games but unfortunately they’re catching Indiana at a very bad time–the Pacers have not only lost two straight games but have lost them in embarrassing fashion. They were throttled by Oklahoma City at home and followed that up with a dismal effort the following night at Washington. Despite this mini-slump the Pacers have been a very strong investment coming off a bad loss–they’re 9-2 ATS coming off a loss of ten or more points.

Cleveland’s road success has usually come against teams that ‘take them lightly’ but that’s not likely to happen here. Indiana has taken care of business against divisional rivals going 12-3 SU/11-4 ATS. Conversely, the Cavs have been beaten up in games against Central Division opponents going 3-11 SU/4-10 ATS. Indiana has also taken advantage of inferior competition this year going 26-8 SU/21-13 ATS against opponents with losing records. In other words, Cleveland is a ‘made to order’ punching bag for the Pacers to work out some frustrations.

The head to head matchup doesn’t suggest anything different–the Pacers have won 10 of the last 11 meetings overall going 6-4-1 ATS but have been even better at home. Over the past three seasons the Pacers are a perfect 5-0 against Cleveland at home going 3-1-1 ATS. Just a huge disparity in terms of talent and Indiana’s back to back blowout losses will be sufficient motivation to make this a rout.
