NBA Betting Picks: Charlotte Bobcats at Chicago Bulls

Things have been better with the Chicago Bulls. At the same time, they’re looking up for the Charlotte Bobcats. The Bulls are without not only their franchise superstar Derrick Rose but no longer have the services of the recently traded Luol Deng. The Hornets, meanwhile, are no longer the laughing stock of the NBA as they’ve been for much of their existence. They’re holding their own in an admittedly very weak Eastern Conference–to the extent that if the season ended today the Bobcats would actually make the playoffs.

During much of their existence the Charlotte Bobcats have been a first class money burner for NBA betting enthusiasts. During the past three seasons they’ve only covered a miserable 39% of their games. That has changed this year, however, and the Bobcats have a profitable pointspread record (20-16 ATS) and have been even better in several situations relevant to this game. Charlotte is 12-5 ATS on the road this year even with a Friday night loss/non cover at Minnesota. In addition to their impressive play away from the “Queen City” they have been a strong underdog investment in all situations this year going 17-10 against the spread. They’ve had no problem with the Central Division either compiling an impressive 7-2 ATS mark.

Charlotte has also been very strong in head to head play with the Bulls on their home floor at the United Center. The Bobcats are on an 11-6 ATS run at the venue and have covered four straight. They easily covered the only meeting of the year to date. Chicago has not been a very good team laying points going 7-13 ATS this season. The Bulls still have some weapons but we’d much rather take the points with an improving Bobcats’ team. The biggest element of Charlotte’s improved play this season has been a significantly upgraded defensive presence and given their lack of ‘go to’ scorers the Bulls provide a made to order matchup for the visitors. Chicago simply doesn’t have the personnel to go up tempo with Charlotte and that prevents the Bulls from exploiting the Bobcats’ biggest tactical weakness. Charlotte should be in this game throughout and could very well pull the outright upset.
