NBA Betting Picks: Phoenix Suns at New York Knicks

Monday NBA basketball action features an entertaining non-conference matchup between the Phoenix Suns and New York Knicks. The Suns have been one of the surprise teams of the NBA season. They were expected to be one of the worst teams in the league but instead they have overachieved mightily. Phoenix is 21-15 and were the season to end today would finish in 7th place and make the postseason. Much of their success has to be attributed to the coaching of former NBA standout Jeff Hornacek. Hornacek has a roster full of ‘misfits’ playing hard and that’s enough to win a fair number of games in the NBA. The Knicks, meanwhile, were expected to be a contender in the Eastern Conference but have instead underachived for much of the season. They enter play tonight with a record of 14-22 and are currently out of the playoffs in the weak Eastern Conference. They have been playing better of late winning 6 of their last 10 games but have a lot of ground to make up.

There’s much to like about what Phoenix has done so far this season and they’ve made a ton of money for NBA betting enthusiasts. The Suns are 24-11 ATS, 16-6 ATS as an underdog and 13-6 ATS on the road. This isn’t a great situation for them which has us looking toward the home team. Phoenix is in the last game of a brutal five game road trip. They’ve lost four of their last six games both straight up and against the spread. There’s a good chance they’ll be fatigued for this matchup having played five games in seven days.

The Knicks were overrated coming in to the season but they’re definitely a better team than they’ve showed so far. They may finally be putting things together having won five of their last six games SU and covering six straight. We’ll continue to look for spots to back this Phoenix team but this looks like a spot to go against them. Some concern about Tyson Chandler’s possible absence for the Knicks but the Suns really don’t have the inside game to exploit. We’ll lay the points with New York and look for them to win and cover.
