NBA Betting Picks: San Antonio Spurs at Golden State Warriors

The San Antonio Spurs and Golden State Warriors play in Game 6 of their Western Conference Semifinal series on Thursday night and both teams now know who their opponent will be in the Conference Finals should they emerge victorious. The Memphis Grizzlies dispatched the undermanned Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday night and will face the winner of this series for the right to go to the NBA Finals. The Spurs took care of business in Game 5 to take a 3-2 edge in the series but now have to travel West and play on the Warriors’ tough home court.

This has been a difficult series to get a handle on–at various points in the series the Spurs have made the Warriors look completely outclassed while at other times the Warriors have made the Spurs look over the hill. Much has depended on the health of Stephen Curry’s ailing knees–Curry was a complete non factor in Golden State’s Game 5 win after being dominant at times earlier in the series. Prior to Game 5 media reports suggested that Curry’s ankle was getting better but his performance on the court sure didn’t do anything to validate that.

Prior to this series the Warriors were the best point spread proposition in the NBA. Dating back to the regular season the Warriors covered 11 of 12 but have now dropped 2 of 3 both straight up and against the spread. The outcome of this game–and ultimately this series–depends greatly on Curry’s health and play on both the offensive and defensive end. It will be impossible for him to be less of a factor than he was in Game 5 so for the sake of this handicap we’ll look for an improvement.

With a ‘game in hand’ it’ll be difficult for the Spurs to match the Warriors’ intensity in front of their supportive–and loud–home town fans. Given the way the series has ebbed and flowed with a number of momentum changes there’s no reason to think that it won’t happen again. We’ll gladly take the Golden State Warriors as short home underdogs. They’re in a situation where they have to win to survive and we think they’ll be up to the task.
