NBA Betting: San Antonio Spurs at Memphis Grizzlies

The San Antonio Spurs and Memphis Grizzlies will contest Game 4 of the NBA Western Conference Finals today and this series has progressed far differently than anyone expected. Heading in to the set there was a strong sentiment that Memphis was capable of upsetting the Spurs or, at the very least, capable of giving them a tough fight in the process. Although two of the three games have gone to overtime the reality is that San Antonio has a 3-0 lead and can eliminate the Grizzlies with a win today. Memphis obviously knows that no NBA team has ever won a best of seven series after going down 0-3 and has to feel a bit shellshocked after what has been up to this point a great season.

As evidence that Memphis has been on a very strong run this year they’ve been one of the best pointspread teams in the sport. The Grizzlies are 58-35 ATS in all games and 34-18 ATS against opponents with winning records. They’ve been on an excellent pointspread roll during the playoffs this season going 11-3 ATS though they have failed to cover two of the three losses against San Antonio in this series.

The Grizzlies have done a good job against the Spurs as a host in this series going 7-3 SU and 6-4 ATS in head to head play at home. The Spurs had been a poor betting investment during the stretch run of the season but they’ve recovered nicely during the playoffs and have now covered 10 of their last 13 games. In this matchup, however, we expect the Grizzlies to put up a strong effort to avoid a sweep. This is a proud team that won’t roll over even against the insurmountable odds. We’ll lay the price with the Grizzlies as small home favorites and look for this series to go back to Texas.

The Spurs could also experience something of a ‘letdown’ now that they’re in a situation that is much better than they expected to be. This aging lineup has shown a proclivity toward taking a break when they’re given the opportunity and this could be one of those nights. It’s doubtful that they’ll let the Grizzlies back in this series but we expect there to be a Game 5 in San Antonio early this week.
