NBA Betting: Utah Jazz at Memphis Grizzlies

The NBA regular season concludes tonight and for a few teams their Wednesday games are ‘make or break’ for their playoff hopes. The Utah Jazz are one such team and they have to win tonight against the Grizzlies in Memphis to keep their postseason hopes alive. The Jazz have been on a furious run since late March having won 9 of their last 11 games. Utah is also on a 10-3-1 ATS run heading into this contest. Memphis is already in the playoffs but they have an outside chance of hosting a first round playoff series so–in theory at least–they will exert more than a nominal effort in this game.

Utah’s situation is fairly simple–they are still alive for the playoffs but they have to win and get some help. The Jazz will have to win this game against Memphis and then hope that Houston beats the Los Angeles Lakers later this evening. That’s well within the realm of possibility and especially now that Lakers’ MVP Kobe Bryant is out for the year with a torn Achilles tendon. Los Angeles will also be without guard Steve Nash, who has battled injuries throughout the season. Also bolstering the Jazz’s hopes is the fact that Houston can improve their playoff seeding with a win here and a loss will cause them to drop. Currently Houston is in the #7 spot but can move up to 6th place with a win here and a Golden State loss at Portland. If the Rockets win and Golden State wins, they’ll stay in 7th place. If the Rockets lose, however, they’ll drop to 8th place and set up a first round matchup with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Memphis can secure a first round playoff series but they can’t feel overly optimistic about their chances. They’d not only have to win here but the Los Angeles Clippers would have to lose to the hapless Sacramento Kings–without star guard Tyreke Evans–later this evening. That’s likely not going to be motivation enough to allow the Grizzlies to match the Utah intensity and, besides, the Jazz match up well with Memphis. Look for Utah to win outright in this game leaving their fate in the hands of the Houston Rockets.
