Thursday Basketball Betting Preview

Busy night of basketball betting action on Thursday–just a few NBA games but a big slate of college games. NHL is back in action following their Olympic break and we’ll be looking for betting opportunities there going forward as well.

NBA:

WASHINGTON WIZARDS AT TORONTO RAPTORS:

A couple of the most underrated teams in the Eastern Conference, if not the entire NBA. The Raptors are in 3rd place in the Eastern Conference so they’re not exactly under the radar any more. Lots of pointspread upside with both teams but not sure how ‘under the radar’ the Raptors are anymore. Both teams are ones we’ve been playing ‘On’ lately but in this matchup prefer the seriously underrated–and undervalued–Wizards. Wizards are an impressive 20-8 ATS on the road and 20-12 ATS as an underdog.

BROOKLYN NETS AT DENVER NUGGETS:

Brooklyn put up one of the really embarassing performances of any team this season last night, losing by 42 to the Blazers in Portland. They’ve got a perfect spot to bounce back tonight against a defensively weak Nuggets team that is playing poorly on both ends of the floor. Line is overreacting to the Nets’ shabby effort in Portland last night but in front of the national TV cameras Nets will put up a good effort tonight and particularly on the offensive end facing the #28 scoring defense in the NBA that allows 104.6 PPG. Brooklyn should win a shootout.

College Basketball:

ARKANSAS AT KENTUCKY

The kneejerk reaction is to back Arkansas at home and fade them on the road. Not sure that’s the case here–Arkansas needs to win some games to get a NCAA bid and Kentucky has been up and down all season long. The Arkansas home/road dichotomy is so well known now there will soon be good reason to go the other way in both situations.

BET ARKANSAS +10 OVER KENTUCKY

GONZAGA AT PACIFIC

Gonzaga comes in having lost their previous two but that gives us some nice value against a Pacific team that doesn’t play good defense. UOP has lost three straight since their home upset of BYU–a game that says more about BYU’s road struggles than anything else. Gonzaga needs to get back on the winning track and should be able to against a Pacific team they dominated at home earlier this season. Not rocket science here–just taking the significantly better team at a reasonable price due to an overreaction to Bulldogs’ recent losses. Gonzaga is still an elite program and should once again dominate a superior team. Recent losing streak gives us some urgancy.
