NFL Football Betting: Denver Broncos at Cincinnati Bengals

The third Sunday of the NFL season begins at the top of the board as the Denver Broncos head East to take on the Cincinnati Bengals. The Broncos are 2-0 SU/ATS with home victories over Carolina and Indianapolis. They now face three of their next four games on the road starting today in Cincinnati, next week in Tampa Bay and 10/13 at San Diego. The Bengals are 1-1 SU/0-1-1 ATS for the season with an opening game win at the Jets and a loss at Pittsburgh last week. This is the Broncos first road game of the season and the Bengals first home game.

The Bengals have been a very fast starting team over the past three seasons. In the month of September the Bengals are on a 7-1 SU/6-1-1 ATS run. They’re 20-12 ATS in all games during that stretch though just 10-8 ATS as a favorite and 8-07 ATS at home. Cincinnati doesn’t get the respect they deserve for defense. They finished #2 in the NFL in fewest points allowed (17.4) just one-tenth of a point behind first place Seattle. This is a tough spot for Denver starting quarterback Trevor Siemian–he looked good in his first two starts at home but this is his first career road start against a tough defense in a tough setting.

That being said, it’s tough to go against Denver for several reasons. They’ve been an excellent underdog in recent years with a 6-2 SU/6-1-1 ATS record over the past three seasons. More importantly, their nasty defense looks as good as ever in 2016. They’ve gone seven straight games allowing 20 points or fewer against some top notch competition. Bengals’ quarterback Andy Dalton may have lost a few receiving weapons in the offseason and looked gimpy near the end of the Pittsburgh game last week. He’s been upgraded to ‘probable’ so he should play but if his mobility is limited Denver will exploit it.

Cincinnati on a 4-1 SU/5-0 ATS run against the AFC West but just can’t pass up a proven underdog with a strong defense getting more than a field goal. Siemian doesn’t have to do it all and can count on the defense to keep the score down.
