NFL Football Betting: Houston Texans at Denver Broncos
Week 7 of NFL action draws to a close on Monday Night as the Houston Texans travel West to take on the Denver Broncos. The Texans are atop the AFC South with a record of 4-2 but they’re 0-2 on the road this year. The Broncos are also 4-2 but that puts them in a tie for second in the AFC West with Kansas City. A win here would put them into a tie with the Oakland Raiders for first place in the division. The Broncos have lost two straight dropping a 23-16 decision to Atlanta at home on 10/9 and losing 21-13 at San Diego on 10/13. That gives them 11 days off since their last game and that should help them. Houston is coming off a 26-23 home win over Indianapolis last Sunday.
Plenty of ‘homecoming’ storylines in this game. Gary Kubiak will be back on the sidelines after a health scare that resulted in him taking some ‘time away’. His presence should help the Broncos greatly. This game is particularly important to Kubiak as he is the former coach of the Texans and was unceremoniously fired late in the 2013 season. As the ebbs of good and bad fortune in the NFL work out he’s found himself as the head coach of the Super Bowl champions. Also returning to Denver is Brock Osweiler, who spent last season backing up Peyton Manning. He had a nice run while Manning was sidelined and parlayed that into a big payday in Houston. That should give the Denver defense extra motivation to stop him and give current starting quarterback Trevor Siemian addition motivation to play well as validation that his team made the right move in keeping him and sending Osweiler packing.
Houston is on a 8-13 ATS run as an underdog and in theory the Broncos should be anxious to end their losing streak. They’re 2-0 SU after 2 or more losses over the past three seasons but 0-2 ATS. While there are plenty anecdotal reasons to back the Broncos here the reality is that it’s tough to lay this price against a decent team in the NFL. We’ll look for Denver to win the game but to not cover this pointspread.
