Week 5 NFL Betting Lines

Four weeks into the 2015 NFL season, it’s clear which teams are legit contenders and which ones are in line for a top ten pick in next April’s Draft. There’s no argument that New England, Denver, Cincinnati, Green Bay, Atlanta, and Carolina are the cream of the crop in early October. There’s also no doubting that Detroit, Chicago, Jacksonville, Houston, San Francisco, Miami, and Philadelphia are circling the drain, clinging to a sliver of hope that their collective fortunes will change. Keeping this in mind, oddsmakers have installed some curious lines for Week 5, including a lot of puzzling home chalk that will definitely entice keen bettors. Here’s a look at the Week 5 betting lines.
Chicago at Kansas City -10 – The Bears and Chiefs have both allowed 125 points in four games, placing them in a tie for dead last in the league. Now, the schedule certainly didn’t do KC any favors after matchups with Denver, Green, Bay, and Cincy. However, at some point the defense has to stop someone. Perhaps Jay Cutler and the talent starved Bears offense is the remedy. Chicago is terrible, but 10 points more terrible than the Chiefs? Kansas City is 6-2 ATS in its last eight home tilts.
Washington at Atlanta -7.5 – It’s fair to assume few pundits prior to the season forecasted the Falcons to be sitting at 4-0. After drubbing the lowly Texans on Sunday, ATL draws an underrated Redskins team that just engineered a comeback win over the rival Eagles. Matt Ryan and Julio Jones were quiet in Week 4, but that will likely change versus a depleted Washington secondary. ‘Skins are 5-12 ATS in its last 17 games.
Jacksonville at Tampa Bay -3.5 – Home teams giving three points is standard, but Jameis Winston isn’t exactly instilling confidence right now. Then again, the Jaguars have scored an AFC worst 62 points thus far. However, remove the Week 3 drubbing at the hands of the Patriots, and the Jags are actually competently competing. This should really be a pick-em. Tampa is 2-9 ATS in its last eleven at home.
New Orleans at Philadelphia -5.5 – Another ugly Eagles loss has yet to deter Vegas from shipping them as a good team. The only thing Philly does well is defend the run. The coaching is awful and injuries are mounting. The Saints have their own issues, especially on the road, but no way they are 6 points worse than the Birds. Eagles are 5-18-1 ATS in their last 24 at the Linc.
San Francisco at NY Giants -7.5 – Okay, this one isn’t that far-fetched. The Niners have mustered a pathetic 48 points through four games. Meanwhile, the Giants rank 9th in scoring offense. Also, San Fran has yielded 90 points in its last two road trips. And Colin Kaepernick is playing like a Junior College quarterback. 49ers are 1-9 ATS in their last ten overall.
