MLB Baseball Betting: Boston Red Sox at Los Angeles Angels

The Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Angels will play the second game of a weekend series on Saturday night and already it’s been a memorable one. Friday night’s game saw a career best performance from Red Sox hurler Wade Miley spoiled by a dramatic walk off home run from the Angels’ Mike Trout. Los Angeles will try to extend their margin in the American League West while the Red Sox are essentially playing out the string after a dismal start to the season.
The Angels are in a pitched battle with the Houston Astros for the best record in the AL West. Los Angeles currently holds a 1/2 game lead over Houston with the Texas Rangers in third place seven games back. The Red Sox aren’t exactly out of the AL East race thanks to the mediocre performance of the entire division this season. They are the decided cellar dweller in a division without a dominant team currently in last place 7 games out of first. But the division is tight enough that they’re 2.5 games out of third place and 3.5 games out of second place. Baltimore is in freefall right now losing 8 of 10 but the rest of the division has been playing right around .500 baseball for the past month. The Red Sox clearly have a shot at the postseason but they’ll need to show some urgency in their play and that’s something they haven’t done this season.
Los Angeles, meanwhile, is potentially in a position to put away their division rivals. Both the Texas Rangers and Houston Astros have lost 8 of their last 10 games while the Angels have won 8 of 10. Should the three teams maintain that form it won’t take long until the Angels have a significant lead atop the AL West. A big thorn in the side of the Red Sox will be Angels’ starter Garrett Richards who has been exceptional at home this season. Richards has a 2.25 ERA at Anaheim Stadium where the Angels have won 6 of his 7 starts. Boston Red Sox starter Rick Porcello has been awful this year with a 5.90 ERA overall and a 7.27 road ERA. Halos take this one.
