MLB Baseball Betting: Chicago Cubs at Milwaukee Brewers

It wasn’t that long ago that people were writing the Cubs’ obituary after the team sputtered into the All Star Break in horrible form. That’s changed dramatically since then. The Cubs are back in domination mode 40 games over .500 and 16.5 games up on the second place St. Louis Cardinals. The enter this Monday series opener with the Milwaukee Brewers having won 7 of 10. Milwaukee has won 4 straight–3 coming against their old foil the Pittsburgh Pirates–but have lost 6 of 10 and are just 2.5 games ahead of the last place Cincinnati Reds.
The Cubs will start right hander Kyle Hendricks who has been the ‘unsung hero’ of the rotation this year. The ‘bigger names’ like Jon Lester and Jake Arrieta get more press coverage but Hendricks has been very solid and consistent all season long. He’s got a 2.06 ERA and a 0.981 WHIP on the year, a 3.23 road ERA with a 1.148 WHIP on the road and has been in excellent form of late with a L3 ERA of 1.42 and a 0.789 WHIP. The Cubs have won 15 of his 25 starts overall though they have lost 7 of 12 on the road. They’ve also won two of his last three assignments. He could be in for a big game against a Brewers’ team that has been awful against right handed pitching this year averaging just 3.6 runs per game and with a record of 34-60 -22.2 units.
Milwaukee will counter with right hander Zach Davies who has been up and down this year–most recently down. Overall, he’s got a 4.07 ERA with a 1.256 WHIP, at home he’s got a 3.74 ERA with a 1.142 WHIP and in his L3 he’s got a 6.06 ERA with a 1.592 WHIP. The Brewers are 12-12 in his starts overall this season including 9-7 at Miller Park and 1-2 in his last two.
The Cubs are 9-3 +3.9 units against the Brewers this season though just 3-3 -1.8 units on Milwaukee’s home field. Since midseason, however, the Cubs have won 6 of 7 head to head meetings. Cubs are in ‘cruise control’ and hard to think that Zach Davies and the Brew Crew will be able to slow them down here. Henrdicks has a career ERA of 2.08 against the Brewers.
