National League Baseball Betting for September 26, 2014

The final weekend of the baseball regular season before the playoffs. It’ll then be time for NHL hockey!

MIAMI MARLINS AT WASHINGTON NATIONALS:

Not a completely meaningless game for Washington–they need a win and a Dodgers loss to clinch the best record in the National League. Actually make that one win and/or a Dodgers loss as they won Game 1 of a doubleheader earlier today. The way the Nats have been playing (winning 11 of 14) they’ll likely just finish things here.

BET WASHINGTON NATIONALS -140 OVER MIAMI MARLINS

ATLANTA BRAVES AT PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES:

Neither team much to write home about since the September 1 call-ups but the Braves have *really* been a grease fire. They’ve lost 11 of their last 13 and 17 of their last 22 games. Jerome Williams trying to pitch himself into being a Major League starter and shouldn’t have any trouble looking impressive against a weak hitting Braves team.

BET PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES +110 OVER ATLANTA BRAVES

PITTSBURGH PIRATES AT CINCINNATI REDS:

Pirates still in the hunt for the NL Central title so don’t expect any let up here. Bucs have won 16 of their last 23 including 8 of 10. In theory it’s never wise to bet *on* a team in a must win situation but this looks like an exception–a team playing their best baseball of the year against a team that has quit on their season.

CHICAGO CUBS AT MILWAUKEE BREWERS:

Not sure what either of these teams are playing for at this point. In a situation like that you have to look for more subtextual edges. Eric Jokisch has pitched well since the 9/1 callups and that might be enough reason to back the Cubs.

BET CHICAGO CUBS +130 OVER MILWAUKEE BREWERS

ST. LOUIS CARDINALS AT ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS:

Arizona’s only possible motivation is to avoid finishing with the worst record in baseball and that’s even a bit of a stretch since their ‘competition’–the Texas Rangers–have been playing hard since call ups and the resignation of Ron Washington as manager. D-Backs have lost 8 of 10 and 17 of 23. St. Louis has won 15 of 23.

COLORADO ROCKIES AT LOS ANGELES DODGERS:

Dodgers have an outside chance at tying Washington for best record in the NL–at least for the moment. A Nats win tonight means LA has nothing to play for until the playoffs start. Late start time means they’ll likely know the Nationals’ result before this game starts.
