National League Baseball Betting for September 27, 2014

The six playoff teams are set in the National League but their seeding is not. The Pittsburgh Pirates remain 1 game behind the St. Louis Cardinals in the NL Central with two games to play. The only other semi-drama in the NL involves the Washington Nationals and the Los Angeles Dodgers who are still vying for the best record in the Senior Circuit.
MIAMI MARLINS AT WASHINGTON NATIONALS:
Washington lost a chance to clinch the best record in the National League last night so they’ll try it again today. A Nationals’ win will get it done as will a Dodgers’ loss. Last night’s loss in the second game of a doubleheader notwithstanding the Nats have been playing great baseball winning 11 of 15. Stephen Strasburg hasn’t had a great 2014 season but he’s looked solid in his last three starts (1.35 ERA w/ 20 K’s in 20 innings pitched). Nathan Eovaldi has struggled recently. We’ll look for the Nationals to take care of business.

SAN DIEGO PADRES AT SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS:
Hunter Pence and Pablo Sandoval both getting a rest day for the Giants who are already locked in to the wildcard spot. That means the remaining two games are utterly meaningless for them. The only reason they’re not an automatic go-against is Jake Peavy starting for San Francisco. He’s a notorious red ass and has been in very good form of late. He’s not a guy to ‘phone in’ a performance and especially against a weak hitting side that he can dominate. Peavy has a 1.75 ERA and a 0.860 WHIP in his last three starts–all San Fran wins. Padres playing very well down the stretch winning 9 of their last 12. With all due respect to Peavy we’ll take the dog money with San Diego.

ATLANTA BRAVES AT PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES:
Same deal as yesterday. Braves have all the appearance of a team that doesn’t care any more. Phillies are nothing special but Atlanta is a dumpster losing 12 of their last 14 and 18 of their last 23 games. Aaron Harang has pitched well in his most recent starts (1.29 ERA and 24 strikeouts in 21 innings L3 games) but the Braves have managed to lose his last two starts by scoring a grand total of zero runs in his support.
