Monday Night Football Betting: Seattle Seahawks at St. Louis Rams

The past few weeks have been an emotional roller coaster for the St. Louis Rams. In mid October they were at their highest point of the season coming off a dominating road win over the Houston Texans. Just a week later they were at the low point, having lost starting quarterback Sam Bradford to a season ending injury. Now they face a tough task trying to regroup to host one of the best teams in the NFL. Seattle is 6-1 and can maintain sole possession of first place in the AFC West with a victory here.

The Seahawks are really hitting on all cylinders right now. Percy Harvin is still out of action for the Seahawks but that’s about the only thing that can be considered a ‘downside’ for this young and talent laden team. Considering they led the league in scoring defense last year and that rookie QB Russell Wilson tied Peyton Manning’s record for touchdown passes by a first year player that’s scary. What’s even scarier is that they might be even better this season and aside from an upset loss at Indianapolis this team has been pretty much flawless so far in 2013.

That doesn’t bode well for the Rams. They’ll start veteran backup Kellen Clemens who is a serviceable #2 but a huge drop off from Sam Bradford. The Rams haven’t made any realistic move to sign another quarterback so they might be close to writing off this season and building for next year. There’s a lot of talent on hand in St. Louis and Jeff Fisher is too good of a coach to let them go in the tank completely but they don’t have much to work with in terms of offensive playmakers. Clemens is a competent pro at best but won’t have much help–or OL protection–and that’s a tall order against a fearsome Seattle defense. Seahawks don’t have anything on deck that would distract them–a home game against lowly Tampa Bay is on deck. In the long term laying big points on the road in the NFL is a losing strategy but it’s tough to make a case for a wounded Rams team in this spot.
