NFL Betting Preview: New York Jets at Buffalo Bills
Week 11 of the NFL football season continues on Sunday as the Buffalo Bills host the New York Jets. Both teams have been dealing with injuries to key personnel all season long. Of the two, the Jets have done a marginally better job of dealing with it. New York actually has a shot of making the postseason with a 5-4 SU record. They’ve been even better against the pointspread going 6-3 ATS. The Bills are 3-7 SU/5-5 ATS but have been a very tough team at home going 4-1 against the spread despite a 2-3 SU record. The Bills are trying to snap a three game losing streak while the Jets are trying to build on a home upset over New Orleans two weeks ago.
Buffalo’s injury situation is clearing up but two key contributors are far from 100%. Buffalo’s E.J. Manuel missed time due to injury and while he’s back in action he doesn’t look great. Manuel is the Bills’ quarterback of the future–for the time being, at least. This has been a very problematic position for years. They thought they had a franchise quarterback in Ryan Fitzpatrick but that didn’t pan out. Sadly, the Bills haven’t had a legitimate and consistent starting quarterback since Jim Kelly. Buffalo also has a very talented running back (CJ Spiller) but little else. Spiller has also missed time due to injury and doesn’t look quite right either.
The Jets were expected to be a ‘dumpster fire’ this season but have been very competitive. They’re not exactly a dominant team but have put up a ‘decent’ performance in most phases of the game. Geno Smith is the quarterback of the future–once again, for the time being–and he’s shown flashes of brilliance though he’s also been inconsistent. The Jets’ defense is very good and especially against the run where they currently rank #1 in the NFL. Other than the public perception that the Jets are a bad time it’s tough to figure out why the Bills are favored here. The Jets aren’t anything great but they’ve got a better defense and more weapons on offense. They should win this game outright and at this price that’s all we need them to do.
