NHL Hockey Betting: Boston Bruins at Columbus Blue Jackets

So would *you* want to get in front of this buzzsaw? The Columbus Blue Jackets were known as a team with plenty of talent who just couldn’t stay healthy over the past few seasons. Spoiler alert–they’re healthy this year, veteran coach John Tortorella is pushing all of the right buttons and all of a sudden the Jackets are playing better hockey than any other team in the NHL with the possible exception of Minnesota (10 straight wins). Columbus has won a ridiculous twelve straight games and will face a tough test tonight as the Boston Bruins visit Nationwide Arena.

The Bruins are a tough team to figure. On some nights, they look excellent but on other nights they’re very ordinary. They’re doing their annual dysfunction where they play better on the road than at home which makes them all the more dangerous here. That being said, however, they haven’t been in very good form of late with only three wins in their last ten games. Things could get worse for them before the new year as they’ll play a home and home series against feisty Buffalo after this game.

Great goaltending battle as Tuukka Rask of Boston goes head to head against Sergei Bobrovsky of Columbus. The two goaltenders’ stats are almost identical. Rask is 17-6-3 on the season with a 1.87 goals against average, a 0.930 save percentage and 4 shutouts. Bobrovsky has demonstrated in the past that when he’s healthy he’s as good as any goalie in hockey and he could be the early favorite for the Vezina Trophy: 21-5-2 with a 1.87 goals against average,a 0.935 save percentage and 3 shutouts. He also has the advantage of playing for a team that just doesn’t seem to lose.

At some point, the Blue Jackets’ winning streak will end. There’s too much parity in the NHL to take a winning streak too far into double digits. That being said, they’re playing too well and the Bruins playing too poorly for it to end here. They play a tricky game at Winnipeg next and if they could win that an absolutely ridiculous against the West’s ‘team that never loses’–aka the Minnesota Wild–on New Year’s Eve.
