International Soccer Betting: Germany vs. Armenia

Germany is one of the best teams in the world and are currently ranked #2 in the FIFA World Rankings. They haven’t looked particularly impressive during their exhibition tune ups for World Cup play. Germany has earned two draws in two games and more problematic is the fact that both were against opponents that they should have dominated (Cameroon and Poland). This is their final ‘friendly’ exhibition before they head to Brazil for the World Cup. Armenia isn’t a highly ranked team but finished third in their World Cup qualifying group and have split their most recent exhibition contests with a win over the United Arab Emirates and a loss to Algeria.

In Germany’s defense they are experimenting with the lineup and evaluating personnel before the World Cup begins. That doesn’t excuse their careless play in their previous game against Cameroon. Cameroon controlled action for much of the game and was leading 1-0 when Germany mounted a quick comeback to go up 2-1. They didn’t do a good job protecting that lead and after conceding a goal in the final 15 minutes of play they had to settle for a draw. They should be more focused for this contest–head coach Joachim Low named his final 23 roster following the draw with Cameroon which means that a good deal of the tinkering and evaluation will come to an end. More significantly, this game will be played in Mainz, Germany and will be the last action before their home fans until after the World Cup. England came through in a similar spot last week and we expect Germany to do the same here.

The Germans should win comfortably but Armenia is a tougher opponent than they appear ‘on paper’. They are the epitome of a ‘plucky’ team that is able to give more talented opponents trouble through hustle and dogged determination. That makes laying the huge favorite price with Germany a bit of a concern. Given the situation, however, this is an essential win for Germany after two uninspiring performances and they’ve got the talent to win with ease. We’ll take the far superior side and look for this game to go ‘Over’ the total.
